Surfing is an exciting sport that has been increasing the number of followers in our country. In 2009 Costa Rica was chosen to host and organize the World Surf Open category. Ramada JacóBay serve as official sponsors of the event.

Our country won the cup to nations such as Brazil and South Africa, two world powers in terms of surfing. The tournament was held in Playa Hermosa, Jacó, and was named Billabong World Surfing Games Costa Rica 2009, whose sponsoring brand provided a budget of $2 million to assemble the logistics demanded an event of this magnitude.

The waters of Hermosa Beach were chosen by the ISA (International Surfing Association) because of quality of the waves and its proximity (4 km) to the center of Jacó Beach, a city with infrastructure development required to accommodate large numbers of visitors.
